Homeopathy Around the World

Homeopathy or homoeopathy was invented by Samuel Hahnemann, in 1976. Homeopathy is based on the heeling phenomenon-similia similibus curentur, that means like cures like, Dr.Hahnemann proves that a substance which causes the symptoms of a disease in healthy people can cure the similar symptoms in sick people.

As per Dr.Hahnemann main causes of illness is miasms, and potentised homeopathic medicine addressed Miasm. The homeopathic dilution are prepared by diluting the chosen substance repeatedly in alcohol or water, this process of ultra dilution continues beyond the point where not even the molecules of the original substance remain. Homeopathic doctor choose homeopathic medicine based on Totality of symptoms, physiccal, mental, physiological, and family history. After proper case taking repertorisation is done.

Now a days, Homeopathy is very popular in many countries like,fairly common in some countries while being uncommon in others. In some countries, there are no specific legal regulations concerning the use of homeopathy, while in others, licenses or degrees in conventional medicine from accredited universities are required.

Europe

No specific regulation in Austria and Germany, 

France and Denmark license is compulsory for diagnosing  ailment and giving medicine.

Few homeopathic treatment are covered by insurance of many part of Europe, which including France, United Kingdom, Denmark, and Luxembourg.

In Belgium and the Czech Republic, homeopathy treatment is not covered by insurance. 

In Austria, insurance requires proof of effectiveness in scientific way for the reimbursement of Homeopathic medical treatments.

 Belgium

As per draft royal decree proposed by the Minister of Social Affairs and Public Health Laurette Onkelinx, homeopathy can be practiced only by doctors, dentists and midwives. and as per a survey in Belgium, 83% of treatment seekers for alternative medicine prefer homeopathy, either alone or combination with other alternative medicine.

France

Homeopathy is one of the most popular alternative medicine in France. Its use rose from 17% of the population in 1982 to 30% in 1987 and 39% in 1992 and 56% in 2016

Germany

Germany, follows European Union (EU) legislation for homeopathic medicine. Homeopathic medicine can be sold OTC-over the counter in various pharmacies across Germany. Germany one and only member state of the EU where homeopathic medicine are produced and it does not require a registiration.

Italy

A survey data conducted on approx 70,000 citizens of Italy revel that approx 4.6 million people in Italy (8.3% of the population) used homeopathy from 1996 to 2000. Homeopathy use rise from 2.6% in 1991 to 8.5% in 1999.

 

Netherlands

In Netherlands 40% of total general practitioners used homeopathy.

 

Romania

Romania also follow general practices of EU for homeopathy. National Agency of Drugs and Medical Devices (ANMDM)regulates homeopathy in Romania and it can be used with a valid license. Homeopathic medicine can be sold OTC-over the counter. 

 

Sweden

As per National Board of Health and Welfare use of homeopathy medicine is permitted by licensed medical professionals only.

 

United Kingdom

Homeopathy practice is not regulated by law in in the United Kingdom (UK), medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency regulate sale of Homeopathy products and medicines in United Kingdom (UK)

 

 

Switzerland

State Health insurance backed health Insurance cover to Homeopathy for trial period till 2017. Registration of homeopathic medicine without solid liberal in Switzerland.  Swissmedic, the regulator of Homeopathy in switzerland, gives inexpensive registration through simplified process of electronic registration.

 

Australia

As per study conducted in 2006, approximately 14.3% of Australian population has used homeopathic medicine atleast once in lives, including 6.2% who opt exclusively for homeopathic consultation.

 

North America

Canada

In Canada, as per a study use of Homeopathy medicine by children in Quebec is 15% of the sampled 2,911 children used alternative medicines. Doctors who use homeopathy should follow guidelines given by province's College of Physicians and Surgeons. 

United States

As per Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) of 1938 homeopathic medicine and cosmetic are recognised, but with few exceptions. New York Senator and homeopathic physician Royal Copeland,was main sponsor of this act, and they ensured that United States homeopathy's own Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States (HPUS) must be included.

Homeopathy is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in United State, FDA also regulates standardisation and manufacturing of homeopathy Medicine, as per The Homœopathic Pharmacopœia of the United States (HPUS) 

Homeopathic medicine are marketed as OTC drugs.

In Mexico, homeopathy is included in national healthcare system. Of the total population who use Homeopathy Approx. 30 % prefer Homeopathy mode of Treatment.

South America

Argentina and Colombia, allow only qualified Homeopathy doctors who have passed from a recognised Homeopathy medical college to practice homeopathy. Homeopathy is regulated in South American countries, since 20th century. Homeopathy is included in the national health system in Brazil.

 

Middle East and Asia

India is having largest pool of Homeopathic doctors in the world, there are more that 181 homeopathy medical college, more that 8000 government dispensary and 300 hospitals which provide homeopathy medicine and consultations. 

During World War II, Indian military personnel which formed the main part of the British army in introduce Homeopathy in Malaysia, Asia.

Middle

Homeopathy system of medicine is very popular in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iran. Homeopathy system of medicine is recognised and regulates by Ministry of Health (MOH) in UAE,  Only medical doctors can practice science of homeopathy in Iran.

India

In India people are using Homeopathy since 1810. In India Homeopathy homeopathy is regulated and recognised by Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), Research and recognition of Homeopathy is promoted by Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy CCRH- New Delhi, India.Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH),  Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, regulates the homeopathy education in India.

South Africa

In South Africa,Allied Health Professions Act regulates homeopathy

Only person who are registered with the AHPCSA can practice Homeopathy in South Africa.

It is must to get registered for practice else it is treated as offence.

Nigeria

In Nigeria qualified practitioners can practice homeopathy. I. Okogeri, started homeopathy practice in Nigeria in 1961, there is Homeopathy college as well in Nigeria-The Nigerian College of Homoeopathic Medicine.
