High blood pressure is a condition when pressure of circulating blood against blood carrying artery walls increases, which leads to various health ailments.

BP is calculated by amount of blood heart pumps and the resistance to blood flow in the arteries. More blood heart pumps or narrower the arteries, higher is blood pressure.

A person can have hypertension from many years without any symptoms. But as per Dr.Abhishek, even without physical symptoms, pathological damage to blood carrying vessels and heart continues which can be detected. A person is having hypertension when his B.P is constantly higher than 140/90 mm of mercury, even while resting.

Types of Hypertension-

Primary hypertension

When there is no known cause of high blood pressure, it develop gradually over many years.

Secondary hypertension

Hypertension due to underlying ailment is secondary hypertension, causes of secondary hypertension:

• Obstructive sleep apnea

• Renal problems

• Tumor of Adrenal gland

• Thyroid Ailments

• Congenital blood vessels defects

• In take of allopathic medications, such as OCP, common cold medicines, anti-allergic decongestants, pain killers, cocaine and amphetamines

• Chronic alcohol intake

Symptoms- Clinically number of patient suffering from hypertension shows no signs or symptoms, others may have following symptoms-

Headaches,

Shortness of breath

Nosebleeds.

Treatment for High Blood Pressure

Risk factors-

Age. Blood pressure increases with the age. Hypertension is very common in men, in 35–45 age group. Female generally get hypertension after the age of 60 years.

Race. Hypertension and its complications, like renal failure, heart attack and stroke are more common among blacks.

Family history. Hypertension is more common, if having family history of High Blood Pressure.

Obesity:- Blood pressure is usually high in obese person.

Sedentary life. Lack of exercise increases the risk of Hypertension.

Using tobacco. Smoking or chewing tobacco increase blood pressure.

High intake of common salt in diet. High sodium in salt leads to fluid retention in the body, there by causing hypertension.
